Citizens Offering Police Support (COPS)

Are you looking for a challenging, fun way to contribute to the community while helping to reduce crime and increase law enforcement services to the community? COPS volunteer patrol members contribute approximately 15 hours per month and perform a variety of functions for the police department.

Application Process

If you are interested in volunteering with the Lynden Police Department as a part of the COPS program you can print out an application packet by clicking on the link listed below or pick up an application packet at the police station, 203 19th Street. If you have any questions, please contact the program coordinator, Officer Nathan Dunn at 360-354-2828.

If an applicant is selected for the COPS program, a thorough background check will be conducted.

If the background check is satisfactory, the applicant will be notified of their acceptance into the program.

The newly accepted applicant will complete an 8-hour civilian ride along with a commissioned officer during a regular shift. The applicant is also required to complete several training classes, such as defensive driving and radio procedures.

After completion of all training requirements, departmental equipment will be issued.
