The Election Division of the Auditor’s Office provides voter registration services and conducts local, state, and federal elections for Whatcom County. Candidate filing information is available through the Auditor’s Office webpage which is linked here.
The City of Lynden, Washington, is a Non-Charter Code City as specified by the State of Washington Revised Code of Washington (RCW) Title 35A RCW. For more information about the structure of the Mayor-Council Plan of Government, as implemented by the City of Lynden, see RCW 35A.12
Mayor Scott Korthuis is the Chief Executive Officer of the city, and also chairs the council meetings. Mayor Korthuis is not a councilmember, but can vote in some special circumstances. RCW 35A.12.100 specifies the mayor’s duties and voting capabilities at council meetings.
The City Council consists of seven councilmembers, each elected to a 4 year-term. Council position terms are staggered so that not all council terms come up for election in the same year. The salaries of the mayor and the councilmembers are fixed by ordinance and may be revised from time to time.
